Cyclone (2008)
Cyclone is an exhilarating piece for concert band that features the percussion section, underscoring the fury of the band. The piece reflects a storm, and the listener is dropped into the beginning of the piece as if the storm had already been brewing before the music starts. After picking up pace, the storm falls into a sudden calm, characterized by a lone saxophone solo that eventually gives way to a brass chorale. The music comes to a whirlwind ending with an exciting climax led by the percussionists, which are treated almost as a concerto soli.
