Fantasia Dance (2013)
As I worked my way through school preparing to be a professional musician, I kept trekking my way alongside clarinetist Jenny Laubenthal. First through Northeast Ohio at the University of Akron and then we both made our way to The Ohio State University. However, after graduations, we both went our own ways. I was pleasantly surprised then to hear from her asking me to write a piece for her duo with flutist Kathy Melago. Fantasia Dance is fun and light (what else could it be but light with two treble instruments?!?) the whole way through. Perhaps one might think of something like fairies dancing. The middle, slower movement is flanked by two quicker movements, the last of which is preceded by a 'cadenza' for both instruments.
