Three Sacred Motets (2004)
These motets grew out of the desire to set three of my favorite, sacred Latin texts. The somber mood of the Ave Maria reflects the penitential nature of the end of the text and is emphasized by the falling chromaticism. O Sacrum Convivium conveys a joyful air with a fanfare-like beginning. The last of the three, Ave Verum Corpus, has a simple setting with frequent unison lines that break into luscious harmonies. The three work as set, but can also be successfully performed individually.
