Uphill (2014)
Dr. Jim Henry spoke at my church on the anniversary of its sanctuary renovation. He drew our attention to the comfort that a place can give us, regardless of its magnificence. It’s not because the place itself is special, but rather that God has set in our heart the desire for a place of rest. A choir room has many times been a place of refuge and renewal for me. As we think of renovating our place here I was drawn to meditate on that eternal place in which there are “beds for all who come”.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1–3)
