When I am Gone Away (2009)
This piece was written for The Johnstone Woodwind Master Series IV 2009: The Oboe. This piece, however, almost never happened as I wasn't sure I would have the time to write it in the midst of a number of other projects. My mind was quickly changed after hearing one of the oboists from The Ohio State University performing with the OSU Men's Glee Club. This was perhaps the most beautiful pieces I had heard in a long time, and I couldn't wait to write a piece for oboe and male voice. When I Am Gone Away came shortly thereafter. The text comes from Christina Rossetti (1830–1894), whom has always been one of my favorite sources from her beautiful collections of poetry.
